Socialization is the process of introducing an uninitiated member of society to the norms and habits of the society he is to be part of. On the flipside, consider the home school environment. Children are in constant interaction with people of and outside their age groups. They have greater freedom to go outside and explore. Their performance is based on discovering their own capabilities and achieving their personal best.

These factors, among others, have been cited by studies stating that on average, home-schooled children not only perform as well (if not better) as traditionally-schooled children, but also that they show a greater tendency and ease in relating not only to children their age group, but to adults and younger children as well.

The latter should be enough to allay the concerns regarding children not being able to function normally in society. But there are more reasons to support the assertion that home-schooled children are not disadvantaged as far as social interactions are concerned.

In fact, home-schooled children are more inclined to learn exactly that since they are being given more time and opportunity to relate to people around them. This applies all the more to time between a child and his/her parents.

It has been observed that children undergoing home-school programs are able to relate to adults better, not only in exhibiting respect towards them, but also in demonstrating a greater capacity to engage in meaningful relationships with people not their own peers. The same can be said for these children’s ability to relate with those younger than themselves, demonstrating a more responsible attitude.

Another advantage is that home-schooled children have more free time to pursue interests in music, arts or sports or simply to enjoy activities such as reading, craft making or simple play. These activities are not motivated by “fattening up” a resumé, which a traditional school environment may cause some students to do.

Given these facts, a parent’s concern over their child’s socialization can be partially put to rest. But as with anything, the success of a method relies on the person and his/her attitudes put into executing a plan.

Home schooling is far from being a fix-it-all, foolproof solution. Social skills can be hampered in a home school environment if the guardian fails to give the child the opportunities to learn how to relate with others.

Such opportunities don’t have to be complex. Simply allowing the child to be with other children and adults will be enough. On the other hand, much supervision is required on the guardian’s part, both to instruct and to protect the child from possible harm.

Yet another Toshiba battery recall

Fourth battery recall in barely a year

Toshiba has been forced to issue yet another battery recall due to safety fears, its fourth in barely a year.

The recall, issued through the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, recalls some of Toshiba's Satellite A100, Satellite A105 and Tecra A7 ranges that are powered by batteries manufactured by Sony. Some 1,400 laptops are thought to be affected.

"Over a relatively short period, certain incidents occurred where certain battery packs installed in Toshiba portable computers caught fire," said the company in a statement.

"Based on its investigation, Sony Corporation, supplier of the subject batteries, concluded that certain battery cells manufactured in a specific manufacturing lot could be affected by a certain issue that could potentially lead to a safety issue."

It's been a bad year for Toshiba and other laptop manufacturers that use batteries manufactured by Sony.

In September last year it was forced to recall 340,000 faulty batteries after two laptops caught fire during operation. Last month another 10,000 batteries were recalled.

The battery recalls from major manufacturers have hit Sony hard. The company admitted losing over $340 million over the battery recalls.

Menu Foods Reports Quarterly Loss on Pet-Food Recall (Update1)

Aug. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Menu Foods Income Fund, the Canadian owner of a company that recalled more than 60 million cans of pet food, reported a second-quarter net loss as sales plunged 44 percent after customers canceled orders.

The net loss was C$3.6 million ($3.4 million), or 19 cents a unit, compared with profit of C$1.97 million, or 11 cents, a year earlier, the company said today in a statement. Sales fell to C$47.2 million. Since the March 16 recall, customers accounting for at least 16 percent of revenue stopped using Menu Foods Ltd.

The company, North America's biggest maker of store-brand pet food, recalled the products after some cats and dogs that ate them became sick with kidney failure and later died. Most of the C$45 million in recall costs have been included in the last two quarterly results, Menu Foods said.

Menu Foods stock, known as units, dropped 17 cents, or 5.2 percent, to C$3.10 by 4 p.m. in trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange. They have plunged 58 percent since March 15, the day before the recall was announced. Income trusts avoid most corporate taxes because they pay the bulk of their cash flow.

Menu Foods, based in Streetsville, Ontario, also said it agreed to sell a production facility in South Dakota to Mars Inc. for $26.3 million. The proceeds will go to pay down debt, the company said.

Call Centers didn’t have much variation or flexibility up until recently, they were brick and mortar facilities with aged, clunky technology and typically weren’t any more savvy than a home office telephone setup – just a multiple of them. With the onset of VOIP technology, companies have expanded options in establishing their contact center. For instance, it is now possible for a call center to be of the home-based variety, where callers may use a hosted web based solution on their computer and a headset in order to fulfill an organizations contact center needs.

Further, inbound and outbound options for maximizing call center agent efficiency have grown. Typically biggest roadblock for call center agent efficiency is Talk Time. Predictive Dialing has changed all that, ensuring agent productivity of up to 300%. Predictive dialing is the perfect technology to increase agent productivity by maximizing a teleworker’s “talk time”. It addresses the problems faced by TeleWorkers in handling outbound Telemarketing to consumers- low contact rates. Low contact rates are a waste of the payroll investment in your TeleWorkers, and also lead to agent boredom. Manual calling typically results in 15-20 minutes of talk time by the TeleWorker doing consumer calling because of no answers, busy signals, bad numbers, answering machines, and the time it takes to dial.

Predictive Dialing uses an algorithm which 'predicts' the answering sequence and therefore the agent talk time. With Predictive dialing, it is possible to increase this talk time by 45 to 48 minutes per hour. The technology works by creating an algorithm, a mathematical formula which is agent specific and job specific. For instance, on a particular job, it might take typically 5 minutes from the beginning to the close of the call for a particular agent. So, the system will dial a pre determined number of lines say four minutes and twenty seconds into this call, so there is a very high probability that within 5 seconds of finishing the first call a new call will be served up to the TeleWorker. The system begins to dial the next batch of calls with while the agent is still on the prior call in order to keep the talk time rolling. You can be certain your agents are maximizing outbound efficiency.

Between VOIP technology and the virtual call centers, which have sprung up to provide VOIP in a call center environment. Add to this the advancement of Predictive Dialing and the tools are in place for a tightly run telephony campaign whether inbound, outbound, sales, customer service, the list goes on and on.

Remain at his side, never in front of the pitbull, as he may cough and spray you with the liquid. Moreover, you must never pour liquid medicine while the victim’s tongue is drawn out, as inhalation pneumonia could be the disastrous result.

Medicine in pill form is best administered by forcing the dog’s mouth open, holding his head back, and placing the capsule as far back on his tongue as you can reach.

To do this: put the palm of your hand over the pitbull’s muzzle (his foreface) with your fingers on one side of his jaw, your thumb on the other. Press his lips hard against his teeth while using your other hand to pull down his lower jaw.

With your two fingers, try to put the pill as far back on the dog’s tongue as you can reach. Keep his mouth and nostrils closed and he should be forced to swallow the medicine.

As the pitbull will not be feeling well, stroke his neck to comfort him and help him swallow his medicine more easily. Do keep an eye on him for a few moments afterward, however, to make certain that your sick pitbull does not spit it out.

One day I was going to invite some friends over and I had to cook for them. Ready made food was just not going to do it this time, so I needed some good lasagna recipes, or any recipe at all actually. Paypal is not good for big business and sending huge amount of money. How many times have you heard this story.

so i signed up in paypal and account is fully verfied and i'm from usa.
I have been selling digital download products and streaming videos, at a month i had sales of around $3,000 and how stupid i was not to take out the money off paypal. so what i did was kept my money in paypal without withdrawl and i kept the money in paypal for 2-3 months without and my total sales added up to around $10k. So finally i decided to withdawl the full balance when i requested the transfer after a day paypal reversed the payment and put a hold on my account, so paypal emailed me saying i have to send my photo id + address verification. i'm like ok and i sent all the documents, then they restored the account and my 2nd attempt to to take out the money they again reversed the money back. and put my account status to limited. Now they called me asked me what kind of buisness i run, etc etc etc. So i have told them everything, but what they said was my buisness was highly risky to them and they wont release my funds, their terms of services says i have to wait for 180 days before they can release my money, i had a big argument with them but they wont release the money, so that was it, also one of their paypal guy told me they might release a portion of the funds after few months if i dont have any chargebacks, so i emailed them after 2 months and no reply at all they just stoped replying to emails.

Now its been like 5 months they are not releasing my funds , i have to wait 1 more month to get my money back from them. in the past 5 months i dont have a single chargeback on my account. So what was their point ? Just kept my money for no reason.

This things happend to lotta people i suggest u stay off from paypal if u have big sales, they steal ur money. There's also a site with full of people's phone tap talking to paypal customer services where they deny your rights, paypal also said they wont ever close your account, and keeep ur credit card information and Bank information. So basically they are saying u can't terminate your account with them. Thats just wrong when u open an account u can close it there has to be an end. But they refused that.

WMP11 is now available for download. I want to try it but Im quite hesitant. It looks shiny and has a lot of "eye candy" but winamp plays my music just fine and VLC player plays all the videos other player cant. Is it really worth the upgrade? A FEW years ago, when I was still assigned at St. Jude Archdiocesan Shrine in San Miguel, Manila, I met a young lady who was reviewing for the bar exam. She told me she was taking the bar and asked me to pray for her.

"I’m scared; it’s going to be my first time," she confided. She was a constant "fixture" in Masses and novenas on Thursday in our church.

She finally took the exams. When I browsed through the papers following the release of the result, there was her name! She made it.

My only "disappointment" was, after her passing, she was no longer seen around in church. I was hoping she would drop in occasionally to thank St. Jude.

"Anyway, she’ll probably come again when she prays for a good husband," I consoled myself.

Firefox 2 officially released

Mozilla released Firefox 2 today. Im using it right now with 15+ extensions. One extension or "add ons" as it is now called that I really like is Adblock Plus. I would use FF for Adblock Plus alone. Another good thing, session saver feature is already built-in. Yeah, IE7 is already out too after millions of years, thank God armageddon has not yet dawned to annihilate all the evilness of this world and guess what IE7 charges for some of the addons!!

Too many features to mention. Download FF and see for yourself! And Surprise, Surprise! Windows Live Mail Beta runs on Firefox 2.
